Facebook API (Graph API): What You Can Do and How to Use It with AI
The Graph API is the official way to access Facebook data and actions programmatically. Companies and agencies use it to publish on pages, moderate comments, reply on Messenger and read metrics. Access requires an app on Meta for Developers and permissions granted by the page administrator, some of which are subject to Meta's review.

How to access the Facebook API
- With your company’s credentialsOAuth 2.0 with an app registered on Meta for Developers. The agent uses a page token or a Business Manager system user token, with the approved permissions.
- Many permissions require app review by Meta: request only what you need.
- Messenger has window rules for replying: the agent follows the platform's policies.
- The Graph API is versioned and old versions are retired periodically.

What an iTeam agent does with the Facebook API
Comments answered in minutes
The agent reads new comments, answers simple questions and hides spam, sending complaints to the team.
Messenger that qualifies
People who message the page on Messenger are handled by the agent, which collects their details and hands the lead to the CRM.
Post calendar with approval
The agent drafts the week's posts, the team approves them and it schedules them through the API.
Page report
Every Monday the agent consolidates reach and engagement and points out the posts that worked best.
From the credential to the agent at work, with approval
Create the app on Meta for Developers
Register an app, link it to the company's Business Manager and generate a system user token with the page permissions.
Store the access and limit what each agent does
Facebook access is registered in the iTeam vault. You choose which agents use it and what they can do (read comments, reply, schedule posts), with a cost cap and a record of every call.
Run the pilot with approval
In the pilot, reply to a comment on a test post. The team approves sensitive actions and follows the call history in iTeam.

Questions about the Facebook API
Is the Facebook API free?
Using the Graph API is not charged, but it depends on an approved app and on Meta's policies. Ads and boosted posts are still billed separately.
Do I need to write code to use the Facebook API with iTeam?
Not necessarily. iTeam's deployment team sets up Facebook access and each agent's actions from the documentation. IT only provides the credential and reviews the permissions.
Can I use the API to read personal profiles?
No. The Graph API gives access to data from pages you manage and from people who interact with them, within the approved permissions. It is not for collecting profile data.
