Firebase API: what you can do and how to use it with AI agents
Firebase is a set of Google services for apps, with REST APIs and admin SDKs for Firestore, Realtime Database, Authentication, Cloud Messaging and Storage. Product and engineering teams that build web and mobile apps use it. Administrative access is through the project's service account in Google Cloud.
What the Firebase API offers
Cloud Firestore
Read, write and query collections and documents.
Realtime Database
JSON tree data synced in real time.
Authentication
User management: lookup, disabling and access reset.
Cloud Messaging
Send push notifications to devices and topics.
Cloud Storage
Files uploaded by the app's users.
Remote Config
App configuration parameters changed without a new release.
How to access the Firebase API
- With your company’s credentialsThe project's service account with a private key, or Google Cloud default credentials, with limited IAM roles. Access by app clients follows Firebase security rules.
- A service account bypasses the app's security rules: restrict roles in IAM.
- Reads and writes are billed by usage: avoid frequent full scans.
- App user data is personal (GDPR and similar laws).

What an iTeam agent does with the Firebase API
Support sees the user's account
When a customer says they cannot sign in, the agent looks up the user in Authentication and the profile document and explains to support what is happening.
Targeted notification with review
The product team describes the campaign and the agent builds the Cloud Messaging send to the right topic, then waits for approval.
Inconsistent data
The agent checks for Firestore documents outside the expected format and lists the cases for engineering.
Feature switched off in an emergency
With approval, the agent changes a Remote Config parameter to turn off a function that is failing.
From the credential to the agent at work, with approval
Create a restricted service account
In the project's Google Cloud, create the account with minimum roles, for example read-only on Firestore.
Register it in the iTeam vault
The key stays in the vault and each agent uses only the services released to it.
Test with approval
Writes, push sends and configuration changes go through human approval.
Ready-made AI teams for this work
Management reporting team
Revenue, margin, pipeline and cash in one report, built from your systems, with a short note on what changed and why.
Data analysis team
Ask which customers stopped buying or which region lost margin. The team writes the SQL, runs it and explains the result.
IT service desk team
Password resets, access requests and how-to questions handled in chat, with Jira updated and approvals in place.
Questions about the Firebase API
Is the Firebase API free?
It depends on usage: there is a free tier and, above it, the paid plan charges for reads, writes, storage and other resources.
Do I need to code to use the Firebase API with iTeam?
Not necessarily. iTeam's HTTP tool uses the REST APIs with the documentation, and the deployment team sets it up with your technical team.
Does the agent access my app's production database?
Only if you allow it. The best approach is to start with read access and restricted roles.
