Airbyte API: connections, syncs and data with AI agents
Airbyte is a data integration (ELT) platform with a large catalog of connectors, and its API lets you manage sources, destinations, connections and jobs. Data teams use it to automate pipelines on Airbyte Cloud or on a self-hosted install. Access is through an application with a client ID and secret that issue a token.
What the Airbyte API offers
Sources and destinations
Create and configure connectors.
Connections
Define what to sync, how often and in which mode.
Jobs
Trigger syncs and follow their status.
Workspaces
Organize environments and access.
Notifications
Receive failure or success alerts.
How to access the Airbyte API
- With your company’s credentialsAn application with a client ID and client secret that issues an access token. On a self-hosted install, as configured on the server.
- Source credentials stay in Airbyte, and the agent does not need them.
- Runs outside the schedule need approval.
- On the cloud, synced volume affects cost.

What an iTeam agent does with the Airbyte API
Broken pipeline explained
When a job fails, the agent reads the error and tells the owner the likely cause.
Late data
The agent checks that the day's syncs ran before the morning report.
New source on request
A team asks for a data set and the agent prepares the connection for the data team to approve.
Sync cost
The agent flags connections with high volume and little use.
From the credential to the agent at work, with approval
Create the application
In Airbyte, create the API application and copy the client ID and secret.
Store the access and limit what each agent does
The Airbyte access is registered in the iTeam credential vault. You choose which agents use it and what they can do (read jobs, trigger a sync), with a cost ceiling and a log of every call.
Run the pilot with approval
In the pilot, trigger a sync on a test connection. The team approves sensitive actions and follows the call history in iTeam.
Ready-made AI teams for this work
Management reporting team
Revenue, margin, pipeline and cash in one report, built from your systems, with a short note on what changed and why.
Data analysis team
Ask which customers stopped buying or which region lost margin. The team writes the SQL, runs it and explains the result.
IT service desk team
Password resets, access requests and how-to questions handled in chat, with Jira updated and approvals in place.
Questions about the Airbyte API
Is the Airbyte API free?
Open-source Airbyte is free, and the cloud version charges by usage. The API comes with both.
Do I need to write code to use the Airbyte API with iTeam?
Not necessarily. The iTeam deployment team sets up the Airbyte access and each agent's actions from the documentation. IT only releases the credential and reviews the permissions.
Does the agent read the data Airbyte syncs?
It can read it at the destination (the data warehouse), with its own permission. The Airbyte API is for operating the pipelines.
