Figma API: files, comments and components with AI agents
The Figma REST API lets you read the structure of files, export images of frames, manage comments and query published components and styles. Product, design and engineering teams use it for automation and documentation. Access is through a personal token or OAuth.
What the Figma API offers
Files and nodes
Read the tree of pages, frames and layers in a file.
Export images
Generate PNG, SVG or PDF from frames and components.
Comments
Read, create and reply to comments on files.
Components and styles
Query the team's published libraries.
Projects and versions
List projects and the version history of a file.
Webhooks

How to access the Figma API
- With your company’s credentialsA personal access token generated in the account settings, or OAuth 2.0 with an app registered in Figma, with read and write scopes.
- A personal token inherits the user's access, so prefer a service user.
- Exports of large images count toward request limits.
- Files can hold confidential product information.

What an iTeam agent does with the Figma API
Collecting feedback
The agent gathers the comments on a file, groups them by theme and sends the designer a list of what is still open.
Handoff documentation
When the file is marked ready, the agent exports the screens and creates the development task with the images.
Component audit
The agent flags screens with elements outside the component library.
Change alerts
The agent tells the team in Slack when a critical file changes, with a link to the version.
From the credential to the agent at work, with approval
Create a token or an app
Generate a personal token for a service user or register an OAuth app with minimum scopes.
Vault and allowed files
Store it in the iTeam vault and limit the agent to the projects it needs.
Test with approval
Comments posted by the agent go through approval at the start, with audit.
Ready-made AI teams for this work
Management reporting team
Revenue, margin, pipeline and cash in one report, built from your systems, with a short note on what changed and why.
Inventory planning team
Stock, sales and lead times are checked every day. You get a reorder list per SKU and a warning about what is not selling.
Procurement and quotes team
Requests go out to suppliers, quotes come back into one table, and the approver sees price, terms and past orders before saying yes.
Logistics and deliveries team
Routes, drivers and delivery status in one place, with customers told about delays before they have to ask.
Questions about the Figma API
Is the Figma API free?
The REST API is available to Figma accounts, including free ones, with features and limits that can vary by plan. Check the current rules.
Do I need to code to use the Figma API with iTeam?
Not necessarily. iTeam's HTTP tool reads the API documentation and learns the endpoints, and the deployment team sets up credentials, permissions and tests with you.
Does the Figma API let me edit the design?
The REST API is mainly for reading, exporting, comments and libraries. Editing layers and the drawing itself is the job of plugins inside Figma, not of the REST API.
