Airtable API: bases, tables and records with AI agents
The Airtable Web API gives REST access to bases, tables and records, plus metadata and webhooks. Teams that built their operations in Airtable use it to connect them to other systems. Access is through a personal access token or OAuth, with defined scopes and bases.
What the Airtable API offers
Records
List, filter, create, update and delete records.
Base schema
Read and create tables and fields.
Webhooks
Receive notifications of changes in the base.
Comments
Read and create comments on records.
Attachments
Upload and read files in attachment fields.
How to access the Airtable API
- With your company’s credentialsA personal access token with chosen scopes and bases, or OAuth 2.0 for integrations. The old API keys have been discontinued.
- There is a limit on requests per base per second, so the agent batches its writes.
- Restrict the token to the bases that are needed.
- Bulk deletions only with approval.

What an iTeam agent does with the Airtable API
Order base handled
The agent reads new records, contacts the customer and updates the status.
Candidate screening
For each candidate in the base, the agent summarizes the resume and fills in the initial assessment.
Ask the base
A manager asks in Slack and the agent queries the table with the right filter.
Clean data
The agent points out incomplete or duplicate records and proposes fixes.
From the credential to the agent at work, with approval
Create the access token
In Airtable, create a personal access token with minimum scopes and only the bases that are needed.
Register the credential in the iTeam vault
The Airtable credential stays in the iTeam vault, out of prompts and spreadsheets. Each agent gets only the actions it needs (read and update records), and anything that writes data goes through approval.
Test with human approval
Before release, update a record in a test base. In the first weeks, write actions stay under approval and everything is in the audit trail.
Ready-made AI teams for this work
Management reporting team
Revenue, margin, pipeline and cash in one report, built from your systems, with a short note on what changed and why.
Inventory planning team
Stock, sales and lead times are checked every day. You get a reorder list per SKU and a warning about what is not selling.
Procurement and quotes team
Requests go out to suppliers, quotes come back into one table, and the approver sees price, terms and past orders before saying yes.
Logistics and deliveries team
Routes, drivers and delivery status in one place, with customers told about delays before they have to ask.
Questions about the Airtable API
Is the Airtable API free?
The API is available on Airtable plans, including the free one, with call limits that vary by plan.
Do I need to write code to use the Airtable API with iTeam?
Not necessarily. iTeam's HTTP tool learns the Airtable API endpoints from the documentation, and the deployment team sets up credentials, permissions and the process. Your team validates the result.
Does Airtable have an MCP server?
There are MCP servers for Airtable. iTeam can use MCP or the Web API directly, depending on the level of control the company wants.
